Industrial demand prompts plan review

A GROWING demand for industrial real estate in the Gympie area has prompted a multi-tiered government move to plan for the release of more industrial land.

A GROWING demand for industrial real estate in the Gympie area has prompted a multi-tiered government move to plan for the release of more industrial land.

Engineering, planning and business organisations and individuals have been invited to State Government sponsored focus group meetings in Gympie next week.

Interested people and organisations have been asked to contact workshop organiser Bob Hockey on Monday at 4121 1780 for information about preparations for a new Industrial Land Strategy for the Gympie region.

The forum is being organised by the Queensland Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry, which has commissioned a consultant team led by Humphreys Reynolds Perkins Planning Consultants.

Information supplied to participants by the department backs up complaints of a stock shortage by Gympie real estate identities and industrial development interests.

It says the regional council has been receiving development proposals for new industrial estates and is "keen to ensure that sufficient land is identified and designated for industrial development in the planning scheme so it can be developed in a timely manner to promote sustainable economic development."

The project will involve a review of the current supply of vacant industrial land, a look at the regional economy and assessment of likely future demand "across various industry sectors"
