Gympie footy ready for the season

MORE than 1000 Gympie players are cleaning off the footy boots ready for the start of the 2010 football season.

MORE than 1000 Gympie players are cleaning off the footy boots, digging out their shin pads and rinsing out their mouthguards ready for the start of the 2010 football season.

Gympie Football Secretary Pam Tindall said the One Mile ovals were in pristine condition for the start of the season and she was expecting thousands of spectators for the march past and opening ceremony tomorrow.

Tindall said the Japanese Under 21 game against the Sunshine Coast Fire on Wednesday was a great way to start the season.

“Japanese technique – wow,” she said.

Tindall said the international game was only the start of the action at One Mile Ovals.

On Saturday, 95 teams will play, starting with the Under 6 games at 9am straight after the opening ceremony at 8.30am.

“Every team is playing in every age group,” she said.

The men's Miners have dropped out of the Sunshine Coast competition this year meaning a lot more talent will be on show in the local men's competition week in and week out.

“We have four men's clubs playing in first division,” Tindall said.

“We also have second and third division.”

“The top two teams in first division mid-year will play in special Wide Bay League,” she said.
