GYMPIE swimming sensation David Lee returned home from the Queensland Short Course carnival with three gold medals and one silver medal around his neck. He was also named swimmer of the meet because of his golden form.

Lee travelled to the Brisbane Aquatic Centre with fellow Gold Fin swimmers Scott Gear and Drew Timbs last week for the carnival after putting in extra work in the off-season.

Lee's hard work during winter with coach Libby Manthey has paid dividends for the swimmer with a disability.

His winning form in the pool has also seen him nominated in the Telstra Australian Swimmer of the Year awards.

The nomination came after his inclusion in the Australian team for the Global Games earlier in the year.

Lee will join the who's who of Australian swimming at a gala black tie dinner at Parliament House in Canberra on October 7.

He will travel with mother Elwyn and father Malcolm as well as coach Manthey to the event.

His mother said they were excited about attending the dinner.

“It is the most expensive dinner I have ever had,” she said.

The tickets cost $180, but, luckily for Lee, he has his ticket, accommodation and travel paid for. Lee is currently waiting on a decision to see if his disability category, S14, will be reintroduced in to the Paralympics for the London games.

He said if this category was reintroduced, he would keep swimming and try and make the Paralympics team.

If it wasn't, he said he may retire from the sport.
