THE Gympie Cats got their growl back on the weekend recording one of their biggest wins of the season.

The Cats AFL team demolished Caloundra, 18-10-126 to 8-8-56.

Gympie Cats coach Hugh Stewart said his team had performed really well to win the game considering the rough year the team had endured.

“The game didn't mean much to the competition ladder, but it meant a lot to us,” Stewart said.

“We started off slow. I told the guys they really needed to lift in the second quarter and they did.

“Our second quarter was great.”

The coach said the win meant a lot to the club, their supporters and injured players.

Stewart singled out players Billy Mitchell, Wayne Dover and Marcus Matthews.

“Billy kicked six goals and Wayne five,” Stewart said.

“Marcus Matthews playing in the ruck ran hard all day,” he said.

Stewart was also impressed with the younger players who stood up and played consistent footy. “It was a great team effort,” he said.
