GYMPIE Little Athletics club is putting out the call to all budding athletes of all ages and abilities to come along for their sign up day this Saturday.
Gympie Athletics Publicity Officer Sharon Cobb is expecting big things for the club this season and is hoping to see a lot of new faces join the family orientated club.
Cobb says the Gympie Little Athletics Club provides not only fun, but also a high level of training and recognition for all athletes from tiny tots right up to veterans.
The club also proudly encourages athletes with a disability.
“It's all about fun and achieving your personal best,” Cobb said.
“It gives kids a chance to make new friends in a family orientated atmosphere.
“It's a healthy and affordable and more about bettering yourself than winning,” she said.
The club takes athletes from the ages of four up and they can learn a vast array of disciplines like running, hurdles, high jumping, long jumping, discus, shot put and javelin just to name a few. The club has access to a level 4 accredited coach and recently received a grant for new equipment.
“We are looking forward to getting our new equipment for the start of the season,” Cobb said.
The club is also preparing for their big spring carnival which will be held at Albert Park on September 13, a day which will see hundreds of athletes converge on Gympie from around the region.
Club nights for the Gympie Little Athletics are on Friday nights at Albert Park.
Interested potential athletes should show up on Saturday from 10am to 2pm at Albert Park for the sign on day or ring Sharon Cobb on 5483 8989.
