Southeast Queensland July drenching to commence Friday

Unseasonal downpours could put a dampener on school holiday plans with Gympie’s average July rainfall set to be eclipsed in just one weekend.

Weather To Watch

Storm chasers are warning Queensland is in for another barrage of extreme weather during school holidays with Gympie’s average July rainfall expected to be exceeded in just one weekend.

Higgins Storm Chasing have posted on Facebook that heavy rain is forecasted for Queensland in the coming five days, however the 5-10 day predicted totals vary by up to 500mm.

The Weatherzone 7 Day Forecast predicts a torrent of rain will begin on Friday and continue through to Monday for Gympie. This could deliver up to 110mm of rain to the Gympie region.

There is a 80-90 per cent chance of rain forecasted between Friday and Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts up to 100mm of rain between Friday and Monday and possibly into the following week.

BOM Meteorologist Helen Reid told the Gympie Times there was a 90 per cent chance of rain with an average total of 40-50mm over the four-day period.

Ms Reid said June, 2022 received only 23mm of rain out of Gympie’s 60mm average for that month.

Minimum temperatures are not expected to drop under 12 C while maximum temperatures will not reach over 20 C during the same period.

Rain moving from Northern and Central Queensland is estimated to strengthen and spread through the southeast.

The upcoming weather is “definitely one to keep watch,” Ms Reid said

She was not concerned about flooding as it stood, despite Gympie’s dampened ground.
