Scrapbooking master helps preserve her family's history

KAYE Grieve is one of 10 people in Australia who can call herself a scrapbooking master.

KAYE Grieve is one of 10 people in Australia who can call herself a scrapbooking master.

Earlier this month Kaye was announced as a scrapbooking master by Scrapbooking Memories magazine, which chooses 10 masters annually from entrants nationwide to showcase in the monthly magazine.

Having never entered a page before, Kaye was delighted with the recognition.

"It's been very exciting. It was amazing because I found out in September but I wasn't allowed to tell anyone, because it wasn't published until this month," Kaye said.

Kaye started scrapbooking 10 years ago, but with a full-time job and a growing family she didn't have much time for the hobby.

In 2010, Kaye had a relapse of an autoimmune disease and had to retire from full-time work as a teacher.

She said her real passion for scrapbooking took off after that.

"Part of my recovery was to get back into things I enjoyed and scrapbooking was one of them," Kaye said.

As one of the masters, Kaye's scrapbooking designs will be published monthly in the magazine throughout 2013.

Two of the designs already featured in the magazine that impressed judges were pages using photos of Kaye's daughter and niece on their wedding days.

Kaye says her designs were mainly inspired by family history.

"I guess it's a way of preserving memories. When my grandfather died, we found a suitcase full of photographs and there were no dates or names on any of it," Kaye said.

"It really made me aware of keeping history alive and making sure we document it.

"I just want the history to be around so when my kids are old enough to be interested in it, it's there for them."

Kaye teaches classes from her new joint business Craft with Attitude in Mary St. To book phone 0409 862 715.
