Sails Bar and Bistro is coming soon to Tin Can Bay, giving tourists a beautiful spot to eat and drink while overlooking the water.

Manager Tony Heading said he and his wife, who also own Arcobaleno on the Beach in Rainbow Beach, were excited to start a new business venture in Tin Can Bay.

“We’re actually the caterers for the Yacht Club, so we’re the kitchen, restaurant and bar for the club,” Mr Heading said.

Mr Heading said the doors were open to local club members while they finished off the renovations, but the official opening would have to wait until the kitchen was all set up to handle more people.

“It’ll be another month before its operating completely,” he said.

Sails Bar and Bistro will offer fresh seafood, Italian specialties including wood-fired pizzas and pastas, plus the licenced bar.

“We will do similar stuff to what we do over there (Rainbow Beach), but this one being right on the water where it is we will do a lot more seafood,” Mr Heading said.

Mr Heading and his wife Tanya decided to take the reins as the new caterers of the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club when the previous caterers resigned.

“We live here at Cooloola and we’ve always thought it was a perfect business spot that needed to be utilised better so we’ve taken up the challenge,” he said.

While the couple and business duo have had to overcome a few challenges in the process, Mr Heading said the response from the community had been positive.

“Everyone’s excited about it opening up. The general comments are that it’s the most beautiful spot in Tin Can and it will be nice for it to be utilised properly.

“I’m hoping it will not only support the Yacht Club but will also give the tourists something to come to.

“They come to see the dolphins and that's about it here in Tin Can, so hopefully we will be able to keep tourists coming and improve the Tin Can Bay experience.”
