The property, a vacant 1.2ha block of land on Copp Rd, was bought by Miroma (SA) Pty Ltd for $1.14 million in late April.

The deal settled in June.

The land, which sits at the corner of Copp and Ramsey Roads opposite Jaycee Park, has been earmarked for the construction of a 100-bed nursing home.

Gympie Regional Council approved the development in March 2021.

A men’s shed is included in the development but it will not be allowed to host more than a handful of people at any given time due to noise restrictions.

More than three dozen conditions were imposed on the project as part of its approval.

Aged care has been flagged as one of Gympie’s growth industries.

Between 2011 and 2020 the number of health care jobs in Gympie grew almost 30 per cent, from 1930 to 2495.

The region’s population is ageing at a rate four times the Queensland average, increasing from 41.8 years in 2008 to 46.6 in 2018.
