Gympie golfer Rowan Braithwaite shot a ‘magnificent’ hole in one on Tuesday, but the sun was in everyone’s eyes so nobody saw the ball go in

Fifty-two players competed in the Gympie Vets Golf on Tuesday, May 18, despite the rain, wind and sun. The start of the day was a bit chilly but then it warmed up and then rained.

Best shot of the day went to Rowan Braithwaite for his magnificent hole in one on the 17th.

No one saw the ball go in the hole as the sun was in their eyes. But the end result we found the ball in the hole. Well done Rowan. See you at the Christmas party for your prize.

The game was a 4BBB Stableford and the winners on the day were Tim and Yoey Coogan with an excellent score of 46 points.

Second place was Bruce Godden and Ken Burford on 45 points followed closely by Brian (Butch) Carroll and Garry Davis on 44 points.

Pin shots went to No 16 (Open) Robin Kingma, No 6 (A Grade) Robin Kingma, No 3 (B Division) was John Hardy. C Grade on the 12th went to Rowan Braithwaite.

Great scores on No 6 was Lester Pettit, on 12 Wade Wockner and 16 was Robin Kingma.

The NAGA was won by Peter Mort and Al Norman (30 points) and Lucky Wild Card was the Rowlands Brothers who had left the building so it jackpots next week.

Monday, May 17, eight vets travelled to Tin Can Bay for the District Team Championship. Gympie didn’t figure in the first three places (we came fourth). We did win pin shots and the major raffle. And those who stayed for presentations got a ball in the rundown.
