Road rage? Six of Gympie's worst intersections
What do you think? We have put together a list of Gympie's six worst intersections

WE HAVE come up with a list of what we reckon are Gympie's six worst intersections. What do you think?
6: Church St and Calton Hill
This intersection below the ridge of the hill has poor visibility for motorists travelling along Church St due to the crest of Calton Hill a further 30m up the hill.
5: Graham St and Brisbane Rd
Any motorist's wanting to turn right from Graham St on to Brisbane Rd are often in for a lengthy wait. The sheer volume of traffic travelling either towards Tin Can Bay or Brisbane means delays, especially around school pick-up and drop-off times.
4: Monkland and O'Connell Sts
This busy intersection is a challenging one for traffic travelling along O'Connell St, because of a crest that obscures traffic heading down from Channon St. A large bank on the corner also impedes visibility for those wanting to cross.
3: Channon/Mary/Duke St
Due to the high volume of vehicles travelling through this intersection, it is often difficult to navigate. For motorists turning right out of Mary St into Channon St, the intersection is tricky as there is very little visibility of vehicles coming into the intersection from Duke St, due to the intersection being just short of the top of the crest.
2: Channon and Lawrence Sts
This intersection has been the scene of numerous accidents due to poor visibility. Again, a high volume of traffic uses the major arterial of Channon St, but for vehicles wanting to turn right from either side of Lawrence St, the fact the road curves away out of sight in both directions quite quickly means that turning can be tricky. This is in addition to the fact the road is wider on the southern half of Lawrence St and impatient drivers will often pull up two abreast at the intersection, blocking one another's view of approaching traffic along Channon St.
1: Mellor, Chapple St and Lady Mary Tce
This nightmare intersection has such a sharp right for traffic heading up Mellor St from the Railway overpass that turning left into Lady Mary Tce is prohibited. For traffic sitting at the stop sign on Lady Mary Tce wanting to cross into Chapple St or turn right on to Mellor St, they are required to use a traffic mirror to gauge if there is approaching traffic from the underpass as it is physically impossible to see any other way.
It is particularly dangerous early in the morning when the sun is behind the mirror, making it difficult to use.
The intersection is always busy and motorists and pedestrians need to use extreme caution both at this intersection and another similar one on the other side of the overpass on the corner of Station Rd and Tozer St.
VOTE IN OUR POLL:
HERE'S WHAT LOCAL DELIVERY DRIVERS HAD TO SAY:
ONE delivery driver, who wanted to remain anonymous, laughed when The Gympie Times asked him what he thought the worst Gympie intersection was.
When pressed on whether he thought one particular intersection was more dangerous than the others, he said he wasn't able to pick because he thought there were many that were "shocking".
Another freight delivery driver, Sunny Sharma, said there were a number of intersections that he was wary off every day.
He said on Hall Rd near Bunnings, the turn-off to Langton Rd often had poor visibility due to vehicles parking on the sides of the road.
"It's the visibility. If there's a truck or something parked there, you won't see anything," he said.
He also said the turn-off to Brisbane Rd from the Bruce Hwy was another intersection that was hazardous, as was the Mellor St/Lady Mary Tce intersection, which he described as "really bad".
