Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell told the court a cheque book for Better Concreting Brisbane was stolen from a car on February 6, and later given to Brown.

She said on April 23, Brown took a cheque for $4999 into Urraween NAB and asked to cash it, using her 18+ card to identify herself.

“The bank teller could see the handwriting on the check was similar to the signature on the 18+ card,” she said.

She said the bank teller told Brown the cheque was fraudulent, and Brown left the building “in a hurry”.

She said on April 11, an orange Mitsubishi Lancer was found on the roadside in Monkland with its number plates mysteriously removed.

Sgt Campbell said at 10pm that same day, a Mazda 3 was caught on a speed camera with the stolen plates attached, revealed to be Brown’s car.

“She stated she had stolen the plates from the Mitsubishi as she needed plates to continue driving her vehicle, as her previous plates were taken by police when her vehicle was immobilised,” she said.

The vehicle was on a three-month immobilisation period, and her licence was disqualified at the time

Defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said despite her age, Brown had been dealt with in the court twice before, with four convictions.

She said Brown could not explain her actions other than “impulsivity, and not thinking through her consequences of her actions”.

She was placed on probation for 18 months disqualified from driving for two years.

No conviction was recorded.
