Rainbow a quieter schoolies option

FORGET the hustle and bustle of Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast, Rainbow Beach is the place to be, according to school leavers relaxing on the beach yesterday.

FORGET the hustle and bustle of Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast, Rainbow Beach is the place to be, according to school leavers relaxing on the beach yesterday.

Gympie High State School leaver Matthew Tunbridge said he and his mates were having a great time at Rainbow Beach.

The group have been camping at Inskip Point and have been coming into Rainbow at night for impromptu beach parties.

“We’ve been partying on the beach with about 200 other schoolies,” Matthew said.

“Everyone is well behaved and having a good time, there have been no fights.

“People have been having a few drinks , but they are being sensible and relaxing after 12 hard years at school,” he said.

School leavers from Brisbane and Hervey Bay have said their parents would rather them come to a quieter area like Rainbow Beach to try and keep out of the trouble that goes on at the Gold Coast.

Chloe Harbourne from Hervey Bay said Rainbow was a cheaper place to spend Schoolies and her parents had been more comfortable with her holidaying here than the Gold Coast.

Lifeguards on duty at Rainbow Beach yesterday said the school leavers had been well behaved and were doing the right thing and swimming between the flags.
