Rainbow Beach residents are being warned to expect smoke in the area as part of hazard reduction burns in the area over the weekend.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be carrying out the burns at the Great Sandy National Park near Cooloola Dr, southeast of the town.
The burns will be conducted from Friday July 23 to Monday July 26, weather permitting.
A State Environment Department spokesman said the burn-off would help reduce forest fuels in the area and “create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas”.
“This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires, and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration,” he said.
Rainbow Beach residents were urged to be aware smoke will be in the area, and to drive according to the conditions.
