A DANGEROUS Gympie sex offender will be released next week despite a psychiatrist fearing he is on a "slippery slope" to living out violent sexual fantasies.

Nigel Patrick Robinson accessed pornography, including rape images, on the internet while living at the Wacol Precinct, against rules restricting him from doing so.

Robinson served nine years in jail for raping a 19-year-old woman at knifepoint after he stalked her from a Gympie shopping centre and then indecently assaulted a nine-year-old girl he approached in a Gympie schoolyard.

He was kept in custody past his full-time release date in 2006 because authorities deemed his Gympie home "unsuitable" due to its close proximity to the school.

But he was released in 2009 to the Wacol Precinct on a supervision order made under the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003.

Crown prosecutor Jonathan Horton, acting for the Attorney-General, told Brisbane Supreme Court that Robinson had accessed violent images, contravening multiple conditions.

Justice George Fryberg found Robinson had breached the rules of the precinct in accessing the internet and had contacted a woman believed to have an intellectual impairment without telling authorities but Justice Fryberg did not find the violent pornography condition breached.

Robinson told the justice he "got caught up in the use of the internet" and contravening his supervision order did not cross his mind.

He said he was recklessly clicking on a range of websites.

"I didn't look intentionally for violent pornographic material," he said.

"This is the hardest I've done in jail ... because I broke a promise to two people (his mother and partner).

"I didn't think about anyone else but myself."

The court heard he was having erectile issues with his new girlfriend and had turned to the internet for arousal as a way of self-medicating.

Psychiatrist Dr Michael Beech said viewing pornography led to Robinson having violent sex fantasies in the lead-up to attacking the females in Gympie.

"If he starts viewing pornography now, and some of it is violent, then this is the start of a risky behaviour that does lead to a heightened risk (of re-offending)," he said.

Conversely, Dr Basil James said he had seen real, positive change in Robinson's behaviour and believed the risk of him re-offending on supervision was low to moderate.

Justice Fryberg asked that Robinson be given priority to move out of the Wacol Precinct upon release because it was supposed to be only temporary. He also banned all pornography access, not just violent material.

Robinson must face the Magistrates Court on Monday for the breaches but should be released soon after.
