William Daniel Tinta pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday to possessing cannabis, a pipe and scales, grinder and clip-seal bags.

Police were travelling through the Glastonbury State Forest on October 11, 2022, for an unrelated matter when they spotted a car driving on a road about 3pm.

They asked the driver of the car, Tinta, to stop and became suspicious he was under the influence.

Tinta immediately admitted he had a bong, blackened with burnt residue, in the car, the court heard.

He also confessed to having cannabis stuffed in a sock and hidden in a seat pocket.

There were also scales, an electric grinder and more clip-seal bags discovered.

Lawyer Mark Oliver said Tinta used the drug to deal with arthritis and pain from a car accident injury.

“He divides it up so he doesn’t smoke too much,” Mr Oliver told the court.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said the findings in Tinta’s car were “highly suspicious” regarding the precise amounts.

“You are fortunate police decided not to charge you with commerciality,” he said.

He was fined $500 and convictions were recorded.
