A 24-year-old supervisor left the mother of his children at home during a family beach trip on Australia Day because of her outfit and called her a “slut,” Gympie Magistrates Court heard this week.

Further argument occurred upon his return from the trip when he grabbed the woman to prevent her from calling the police.

“This is someone you claim to love,” magistrate Bevan Hughes said on hearing the facts.

“I don’t know what that is, but it’s not love.”

The man blamed his derogatory language on his “stupid mouth”.

The court heard he also drove a vehicle after his licence had been disqualified by court order.

Mr Hughes told the man he was impressed by his “stepping up to the plate” by taking on a stepfather role, but “it’s of no value if you’re not modelling behaviour”.
