A 44-year-old Pie Creek man was remanded in custody after his bail application was rejected in court on Tuesday, February 14.

Shane John Raymont was handcuffed in the dock at Gympie Magistrates Court due to “officer safety and flight risk”.

Police prosecutor Christie Mahoney told the court Mr Raymont was “highly motivated to escape police”.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan told the court Mr Raymont’s alleged offences included serious assault against his father on January 28 and assault occasioning bodily harm against his father, unlawful use of his father’s vehicle and wounding his father on February 13, 2023.

Mr Raymont stroked his beard while he sat in the dock then leant back with closed eyes and broke the quiet of the court with a sigh.

Chris Anderson – representing Mr Raymont – told the court there were “mental issues at play”.

He said Mr Raymont owned a property on Daniel Drive at Pie Creek and his parents were involved with the ownership.

Mr Raymont lives in a shed on the property while a tenant occupies the main property, Mr Anderson told the court.

Mr Raymont’s father had been conducting a routine check of the property on February 13 when the alleged offences occurred, Sergeant Mahoney said.

“In my submission, the offending is just too serious,” she said.

Mr Anderson told the court Mr Raymont had been receiving Centrelink payment “in recent memory” but owned a farrier business that was not operational of late.

Mr Raymont has been charged with one count of serious assault person over 60 (domestic violence), one count of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence), one count of wounding (domestic violence), one count of armed robbery (domestic violence), one count of wilful damage (domestic violence), three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and two counts of wilful damage of police property.

He was discharged on three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle during his court appearance after police prosecution offered no evidence.

Mr Raymont was remanded in custody for committal mention on April 17, 2023.
