A concreter and family man from Gympie has been sentenced after a treasure trove of suspicious items linked to local burglaries was discovered at his property.

A Jones Hill man busted with guns and other dodgy items has been sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court.

Ryleigh William Aristide Gibbon ran away from police during a search in Chatsworth on 25 April, 2022 when a SHS bolt-action rifle, remington rifle, replica handgun and ammunition and gunpowder was found, the court heard.

The rifles were tainted property from two separate burglary break-ins.

Jewellery stolen in a third break-in was also found.

Gibbon was not charged with stealing but having the tainted property in his possession.

He was also found with methamphetamine and a smoking pipe, which the court was told was used to cope with pain from a motor accident.

He was also charged with having a knife in a public place the same day.

A “relatively new” stolen car was found at Gibbon’s property alongside his fingerprints and DNA on the vehicle several months prior.

Again, he was not charged with stealing the car but driving a car that had been stolen between January 20 and February 5.

The court heard Gibbon was in the concreting industry, often working in the mines and was the father of a teenager and three-year-old twins.

“He simply wants to focus on his family and work hard for a positive future,” defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said

Gibbon was sentenced to 12 months in jail.

Having already served two months in custody, he will be released on July 24 and serve the remaining nine months on parole.
