A 38-year-old single mum and remedial masseuse faced court after she was caught by shop employees sneaking lubricant and meat out of the building in her handbag.

Nikki Anne Mcadam pleaded guilty to one count of shoplifting in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mcadam entered Drakes IGA with a child on August 10 about 11.30am, the court was told.

She took meat and bacon then moved to the personal care aisle to take lubricant before moving onto batteries.

Mcadam placed all the items inside her handbag and then went through the checkout where she paid for her remaining groceries.

She was stopped by a loss prevention officer outside who saw her sneaking items into her bag.

The officer brought her back inside the store where she gave her name, returned the items and was issued a banning notice, the court heard.

Duty lawyer Chris Anderson told the court Mcadam was the single mother of two children and carer of her parents.

She is on a carer’s pension and completed a Diploma in Remedial Massage.

She was previously in two car accidents involving a rollover and then a collision that left her with trauma.

“The offences largely born out of need not greed,” Mr Anderson said.

She was fined $400 and convictions were recorded.
