Kyle Mitchell Lino Ambrosetti was sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court on July 25, 2022.

A young methed-up former private school boy will remain behind bars for offences committed over eight months.

Kyle Mitchell Lino Ambrosetti, 22, pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 24 to 15 offences, including breaking into a Mary St shop when the town was vulnerable during the May floods.

Ambrosetti pleaded guilty to 15 charges including entering premises with intent, two counts of obstructing police, contravening a police protection notice, evasion offence, fraud, contravening police direction, possessing a pipe or utensils and possessing property used in a commission of a crime.

Ambrosetti remained quiet and still, frequently hanging his head, during his court appearance as sniffling could be heard from three supporters in the public gallery.

Parts of the Gympie CBD were affected by flooding as the Mary River peaked at 16.01m on May 14.

Ambrosetti previously pleaded not guilty on July 25 to entering premises but changed his plea to guilty and a hearing was cancelled.

The St Patrick’s College student had worked as a kitchen hand at the Gympie RSL and a kebab shop and could get a job at Nolan Meats, his defence lawyer Chris Anderson told the court.

Ambrosetti’s meth addiction followed the break-up of a long-term relationship, Mr Anderson said.

Since he was taken into custody on December 14, 2022, Ambrosetti had been “assaulted” and had meals were taken from him and this made him determined to turn his life around, the lawyer told the court.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said the defendant committed a fraud at Bunnings by sticking a “reduced to $200” label on a power tool worth $500.

He also evaded police and his car was involved twice in an incident involving police evasion, the court heard.

Ambrosetti was sentenced to 50 days in prison for breaking into the shop and will be released on February 1 after spending 42 days in pre-sentence custody.

He was put on probation for 15 months for the remaining charges and disqualified from driving for two years.
