A horse trainer caught growing a 1.9m cannabis tree
Carl Kipling, 22-year-old horse trainer, has been caught growing a 1.9m cannabis plant at his Gympie home.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell told the court the plant was “taller than I am”.
Police also found a 7g bag of cannabis, eight glass water pipes, and electronic scales, allegedly all for personal use.
He was issued with a notice requiring him to identify his particulars, but failed to show on time.
When he did attend, he explained that he had been out “on rodeos” at the time, Sergeant Campbell told the court.
He pleaded guilty to producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils or pipes, and contravention of a police order.
The young farmer opted for a fine over probation, and told the court he earned a “couple thousand a week”.

Magistrate Bevan Hughes took into consideration that the young man had a “very limited history”.
He was fined $1200 and a conviction was recorded.
