A Gympie region man has been jailed for almost a decade for a horrific series of sexual offences against two women, including raping both multiple times and branding one’s genitals with a lighter.
The man, who cannot be identified, pleaded guilty to 11 charges including six counts of rape, four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count of assault while armed with a lighter, all domestic violence offences.
The court heard the man, aged in his 30s, committed the crimes against two women he was in separate relationships with over a seven-year period.
The first offence against the first woman happened while they were camping, Judge Glen Cash said during sentencing.
Gympie District Court heard the man forced her to perform oral sex on him.
He then became angry and punched her “five or six times” in the genitals while “asking her if she liked it”.
When she tried to tell him to stop, he told her to be quiet to avoid alerting other campers, and then raped her.
A few years later, the woman started discussing the idea of branding and body modification.
Judge Cash said the man then “manipulated” her into agreeing to let him “mark her” near her genitals with a hot lighter.
When it started to hurt, she told him to stop, but he refused and “continued to burn her skin a few more times over about a minute”.
One year after the man asked to wax the woman’s genitals.
She again asked him to stop when it started to hurt, at which point he punched her genitals “three or four times”.
The following year when she rebuked his request for sex, he “forced her onto the bed, punched her genitals … and then raped her”.
The victim told her mother about the attack, and the man was arrested – initially denying the offences at the time.
During this same period, he was also in a relationship with the second woman.
She fell pregnant early in the relationship, and it was following this he asked her for anal sex one night.

She refused, but he raped her anyway.
Then, after she returned home from hospital giving birth to their child, he asked her for sex again.
She refused citing “significant” injuries suffered during the birth, but again, he raped her anyway.
On a later date he punched her in the genitals when she refused to have sex.
She eventually left the relationship, but after they agreed to have dinner one night he raped her “on the bonnet of the car on the way home”.
The man’s barrister submitted several personal references from his immediate family and people who knew the man, but Judge Cash gave these “little weight” saying it was clear they did not really know him given his crimes.
“His character is the character of a violent sex offender,” Judge Cash told the court.
The court heard the man was “remorseful” for his actions.
Judge Cash sentenced the man to nine years’ jail.
He will be eligible for parole on August 22, 2026.
