A 45-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences over a shocking pre-Christmas incident that left a young Tin Can Bay man (pictured) in a coma and fighting for life.

A Gympie man has been charged with multiple offences over a shocking pre-Christmas incident which left a young Tin Can Bay man with life changing injuries.
Police said a 45-year-old man had been given notice to appear in court following an alleged incident near Gympie Central Shopping Centre on December 18, 2022.
Twenty-year-old Nemani Ranuve was allegedly struck by a motorbike while walking home about 2.30am along Excelsior Road.
Mr Ranuve had to be airlifted because of serious injuries to his jaw, leg and eye, and was in a coma for several weeks.

He woke in early February 2023, but was not discharged from the Sunshine Coast University Hospital until the end of June after undergoing major brain surgery and suffering several mini strokes.

Mr Ranuve is still undergoing rehabilitation at the hospital.
On Friday, August 11, police confirmed a 45-year-old Gympie man charged with counts of driving while a relevant blood was present in the blood or saliva, using a vehicle with incorrect licence plates, driving an uninsured vehicle, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
He is due to appear in Gympie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
