Gympie court hears guilty pleas to child rape charges
Two different men pleaded guilty in Gympie District Court on Thursday, including separate charges of child rape, taking indecent photographs and multiple child exploitation material offences.

Two Gympie men pleaded guilty to shocking separate charges of child rape and other offences during the March sittings of the Gympie District Court on Thursday, March 23.
One, a man in his 70s, was arraigned on charges of rape and indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16 who was of linear descendance.
The court heard both offences occurred on December 23, 2021 against the same victim.
Judge Gary Long reminded the man he would be convicted of the offences on his own plea of guilty.
“You understand that if the court now moves to accept what you’ve said, you will be taken to be convicted and you will be sentenced in due course for them?” Judge Long asked.

“And that’s the basis upon which you are indicating to the court that you are guilty of these offences, is that right?”
The man sighed before he replied” “Yes, Your Honour”.
He was represented by Chris Anderson in the courtroom.
The matter was adjourned to the next sittings in Gympie District Court in May, 2023 for sentencing.
A second Gympie region man in his 30s has pleaded guilty to 12 charges including taking indecent photographs and raping a child.
The man pleaded guilty in Gympie District Court on March 23, 2023 to one count of using carriage service to access child abuse material, one of possessing child exploitation material, one of making child exploitation material, one of distributing child exploitation material, five counts of indecent treatment of a child and three counts of rape.
Of the five charges relating to indecent treatment, four of these occasions regarded taking indecent photographs of a girl under 12 on October 25, 2021.
On the same date, he raped the victim three times, the court heard.
The victim was under his care at the time.
The matter was adjourned to the next district court sittings in May, 2023 for sentencing and Jones has been remanded in custody.
These two matters are separate and are being dealt with separately in the court.
