A man is fighting for his life after a horror crash between his motorbike and a truck near a notorious Bruce Hwy intersection in a busy Gympie suburb.
Paramedics and other emergency crews were called to a truck and motorcycle crash about 11.20am on the Bruce Hwy, near the intersection of Geordie Rd, at Monkland in Gympie today, September 3.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said a man, believed to be the rider of the motorbike, suffered “life-threatening” head injuries and was flown by rescue chopper to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The crash occurred near a notorious intersection, the turn-off to Tin Can Bay from the Bruce Hwy near the BP and Liberty service stations.
Multiple teams of paramedics were at the crash.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman earlier said the southbound lane of the Bruce Hwy was blocked and urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.
She said police were conducting traffic control.
Traffic had slowed in the area.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said firefighters were also called to the crash.
