An alleged car chase across the Old Bruce Highway towards Gympie ended in an alleged hit and run this week, with a work ute rammed so hard it flipped onto its roof on the Mary Valley Highway.
Police allege a male driver left the scene of the incident about 3.45pm on Wednesday, July 9, after his 4WD caused another vehicle to flip near the intersection of the Mary Valley Link Road and Mary Valley Highway.
Electrician Ty Francis, 37, alleges his Mitsubishi Triton was rammed after he shook his head at another driver’s erratic and aggressive behaviour.
“Multiple witnesses had seen him driving over double lines and passing everyone,” Mr Francis said.
The self-employed tradesman said he was driving back from a job at Federal when he first noticed the man driving dangerously on the Old Bruce Highway.
“After some time, I shook my head at him, and he didn’t like that,” Mr Francis said.
“He was yelling at me, trying to get me to pull over.”
Mr Francis said he then turned onto the Mary Valley Link Road, and alleged the driver had “seen red” and intentionally rammed into him as he merged on the Mary Valley Highway, causing the electrician’s vehicle to flip.
“Lucky my kids weren’t in the car,” said Mr Francis, who reported his whole body was sore after being assessed for minor injuries by a paramedic at the scene.
“Investigations indicate, about (3.45pm), a grey Mitsubishi Triton was travelling along Old Bruce Highway heading towards Traveston when a grey Nissan Navara has overtaken a number of vehicles,” a QPS spokesperson said.
“Both vehicles have continued onto Mary Valley Link Road when the Triton has stopped to turn left onto Mary Valley Road, causing the Nissan to hit it from behind.”
On July 10, police requested that the Nissan Navara driver or anyone with information or dashcam vision come forward.
On July 11, QPS said they had not seen any information suggesting the second driver had been found.
