A 30-year-old Sippy Downs man caught driving 40km/h over the speed limit on the Bruce Highway told the Gympie Magistrates Court on Thursday he’d been trying to get his daughter to a toilet.

Benjamin David Lang pleaded guilty to driving at a speed of 155km/h on the Bruce Highway near Coles Creek on December 4, 2020.

Lang, who represented himself, told the court he was travelling that fast because his daughter needed to go to the toilet.

“There’s no toilets on that stretch of road,” he said.

Lang pleaded guilty to speeding in Gympie Magistrates Court.

“I was just trying to get her to a toilet as quick as possible.”

Magistrate Kurt Fowler said it was “extraordinary” Lang would hit that speed with a child in the car, fined him $1245 and ordered he pay the $170.50 cost of the court summons.
