A Gympie mechanic has been sentenced after reversing into another car while drunk, driving off and then getting into another crash.

Clinton Wade Neal, 39, pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to one count of driving a vehicle with a car involved in a crash and failing to stop and one count of drink driving.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Melissa Campbell told the court Neal crashed into another car across the road from a Gympie pub while reversing and drove away without attempting to contact the owner of the car at 11:50pm on November 25, 2021.

About 40 minutes later, police were called out to a crash with injury in the Palms district.

Sgt Campbell told the court police discovered Neal pinned under the car which had gone off the road and called paramedics who took him to hospital.

A reading taken at the hospital showed he had a BAC reading of 180ml in his blood, the court heard.

Neal told the court he had a long day at work and hadn’t had any food or water and wanted to have a few beers at the pub and didn’t recall much of the events.

He was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for nine months.

No convictions were recorded.
