Carla Lutgenau charged over fatal crash that killed Kathleen Dennis

Lawyers defending the 44-year-old woman charged over the death of Kathleen Dennis in a horrific Mary Valley car accident have made a request to the Department of Prosecutions.

A woman charged over a 2022 crash that killed Mary Valley mother of seven Kathleen Dennis is “likely” to face trial though she is yet to enter a plea.

Carla Anne Lutgenau, 44, was excused from appearing in the Gympie District Court on Wednesday as her matter returned for further hearings.

Ms Lutgenau is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death or grievous bodily harm while adversely affected on the Kandanga Imbil Road in September 2022.

Mrs Dennis, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, the court heard disclosure requests had been made to the Department of Prosecutions by the defence on July 11.

Ms Lutgenau’s town agent Chris Anderson said this disclosure was requested from the prosecution’s office “in respect to triple-0 calls in relation to the incident”.

The defence was to conference with Ms Lutgenau again by the end of July, the court heard.

“At this stage the matter is a likely trial,” Mr Anderson said.

The matter was adjourned until the next Gympie District Court call-over, which is scheduled to he held in late August 2024.
