A Cedar Creek man has said he started using methamphetamine “as a hobby” after being caught drug driving with a blackened pipe in the boot of his car.
Brett Robert Binkins, 46, was convicted on one count of driving with the drug in his saliva and one count of possession of a utensil used for dangerous drugs.
The court heard Binkins was visiting Longreach when he was caught at 8am on November 28 by police patrolling the Landsborough Hwy.
Police searched Binkins’ car after noting his suspicious behaviour and found the pipe in the boot of his car.
The court heard the pipe didn’t belong to Binkins, but he had used it six days prior.
“I stuffed up, your honour,” Binkins said to the court.
He said he was involved with the wrong crowd at the wrong time and his methamphetamine use was just a hobby.
“You’ve got to be careful,” Magistrate Chris Callaghan said.
“Stay away from anything that may tempt you, it’s a highly highly addictive substance,”
He was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for one month.
