A 27-year-old Tin Can Bay tradie was given a suspended jail sentence after police found more than 200 images of child exploitation on a computer stolen from a school.
Bradley Adam Conley pleaded guilty to receiving tainted property and possessing child exploitation material in Gympie District Court on Monday.
Crown Prosecutor Victoria Adams told the court Conley received the tainted property, that being a Dell laptop from a school, knowing it was tainted at an unknown date between December 12, 2019 and October 23, 2021.
A police search warrant was executed on October 23, 2021 and an Acer laptop, the stolen Dell laptop and phone were seized.
Two hundred and forty three thumbnail images of child exploitation material were discovered on the stolen laptop.
Ninety images were also found on his phone, Ms Adams told the court.
Conley would download the images on his phone, move them to a folder, then transfer them to his laptop before deleting the images off both devices, leaving only the folder and thumbnail files on the laptop, the court heard.
Excluding duplicates, Conley possessed a total of 246 pictures.
“This is pretty extreme stuff,” Judge Porter said.
Defence counsel Nathan Turner told the court Conley had been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, depression and anxiety and was undiagnosed at the time of offending.
Conley spent 10 weeks in rehabilitation for drugs prior to the time of the offence.
He grew up in Gympie and now lives with his mother in Tin Can Bay. Conley was unemployed and living with his grandmother in Cooloola Cove when the search warrant was executed.
Conley now works building slashers for tractors and helping his grandmother, Mr Turner told the court.
Judge Porter sentenced him to two years probation for receiving tainted property and a conviction was not recorded.
He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for three years for possessing child exploitation material and a conviction was recorded.
