Woman rushed to Gympie Hospital following Bruce Highway crash

A woman has been taken to Gympie Hospital with leg and abdominal injuries after being cut from her car following a multi-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway just south of the Aldi shopping centre.

A woman in her 70s has been taken to Gympie Hospital in a serious but stable condition after having to be cut free of her car following a multi-vehicle car accident just south of the Aldi shopping centre on the Bruce Highway in Gympie on Monday morning.

A QAS spokeswoman said the woman was taken to hospital with leg and abdominal injuries. Queensland Fire and Emergency crews had to cut her free of her car, taking off a door and a roof to get to her after the crash occurred between Centro Way in Gympie, and the Mary Valley HIghway turn-off about 11am.

Two other patients were assessed by QAS crews at the scene.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said earlier that three fire units were on the scene with other emergency crews, where they were working to free the trapped motorist.

Police Media had warned that highway traffic is completely blocked in both directions and was expected to stay blocked for some time, and motorists were advised to avoid the area between Centro Way in Gympie and the Mary Valley Highway turn-off. It is believed the highway traffic is now flowing slowly in both directions.

Traffic back up on the Bruce HIghway through Gympie on Monday October 18 after a traffic incident on the Bruce Highway south of Aldi.
