Person trapped in multi-vehicle crash on Tin Can Bay Road

A man and woman have been rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries after two cars and a logging truck collided at the Laminex intersection on the Tin Can Bay Road.

A man and woman both aged in their 60s have been rushed to Gympie Hospital with life threatening injuries after they were involved in a multi-vehicle accident near the turn-off to Laminex in the Toolara Forestry on the Tin Can Bay Road on Tuesday.

The crash occurred about 10am, involving two cars and a logging truck.

A man in his 60s was initially trapped and had to be freed using the jaws of life - he was taken to hospital with significant arm and chest injuries, a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said.

A woman aged in her 60s was taken to Gympie Hospital with potentially life threatening internal injuries.

A woman in her 30s was also transported to hospital, and another two patients were treated at the scene and declared stable by 11.40pm.

Emergency crew were initially unsure exactly how many people were trapped following the initial crash, with police saying there could have been as many as four.

The crash occurred at the intersection of the Tin Can Bay Road and Laminex Road.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said hydraulic equipment was being used at 11am to cut the man free.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said four patients were initially treated.

“They all appear to be stable but there is one man in his 60s currently still trapped,” they said.

“It looks like he may have a nasty arm injury.”
