The LNP Member for Gympie has called on the state government to reveal more details on the deal struck between the owners of the Woolooga solar farm and the XXXX Brewery in Milton to supply 100 per cent of the brewery’s power.

XXXX Brewery, through its owner Lion, signed a new Power Purchase Agreement to procure 100 per cent renewable electricity from the Lightsource bp solar farm at Woolooga, a statement from Deputy Premier Steven Miles read on February 10, 2023.

MP Tony Perrett said the media release about the agreement “between two private companies” provided no “publicly available information about the deal”.

“Presumably the deal means the solar farm will not power as many Queensland homes as it had previously claimed,” Mr Perrett said.

“ ...the Federal Treasurer admitted that we’re in a cost-of-living crisis, inflation is running out of control and electricity prices are soaring for consumers.

“There’s been a 7.7 per cent increase in government taxes on beer prices since August.

“I’m not sure how this deal will make power prices cheaper for everyday Queenslanders or reduce the cost of beer as part of the cost-of-living crisis.”

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig declined to comment on what he called “the XXXX promotion” but said he was unsurprised the large, sustainable energy companies were choosing to locate their businesses in the Gympie region.

“While I won’t comment directly on the XXXX promotion what I can say is that it is no surprise large, sustainable energy companies are seeking the Gympie region out to operate their business,” he said

“This council is focused on working with entities that have the environment and sustainable energy at the forefront of their operation.”
