THE large load of rubbish dumped beside the Mary River over the weekend is a disgrace, something that should upset all residents.
The Mary River has long been the lifeblood of our region and one of our great environmental assets.
It's a beautiful place where people can fish, swim and enjoy themselves.
To think environmental vandals would go out of their way to dump such a mess next to a popular swimming hole is beyond belief.
There is no excuse.
Just a couple of kilometres down the road is the Bonnick Rd dump where Gympie Regional Council still allows residents to dispose of rubbish for free, unlike most metropolitan areas.
I urge anyone who has any information about the illegal dumping to ring the Gympie police or the council.
Because, just like we now have to clean up the river bank, sometimes we need to also clean the rubbish off our streets.
