No charges laid after fatal Gootchie crash

Charges have not been laid after a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two Hervey Bay women at Gootchie on July 22.

CHARGES have not been laid after a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two Hervey Bay women at Gootchie on July 22.

The women were returning from a business function when a truck collided head-on with their car on the Bruce Hwy, about 10km south of Tiaro at the Sheehans Rd intersection.

The passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver, Patricia Nell, 56, of the car died in hospital three days later.

The crash shocked the Hervey Bay community, with Patricia remembered as a gentle person and community leader.

According to police reports, some of their colleagues witnessed the crash, following in a car behind them and issued this statement following the accident.

"We are heartbroken by the loss of two dedicated and talented members of the MAX family," the statement read.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their friends and families.

A police spokeswoman said police were continuing to investigate the crash.
