A NEW Gympie fire station will not be built for at least another six years, Queensland Parliament has been told.

Member for Gympie Tony Perrett asked Police, Fire And Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne when a briefing regarding planning for the new Gympie Fire and Rescue Station would be provided, and what was the anticipated completion date.

Land for the new station near Lake Alford was bought 20 months ago in October 2014, but Mr Byrne said the current fire station was still function “and resources are operationally capable to meet the needs of the Gympie community”.

“Given the current capabilities of the existing Gympie Fire and Rescue Station, I am advised by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services that construction of a new station is expected to commence in 2022 with completion scheduled for 2023.”
