Mothar Mountain residents are now trapped in their homes after several roads were completely flooded.

Local Yvonne Miles told the Gympie Times she was on her way to Bunnings when she saw the first road closure.

“I drove out to see if I could get there or not, but the new road they built going towards Bunnings was completely flooded,” she said.

Ms Miles was behind a large Woolworths truck and a 4-wheel-drive who both went through the flood water which splashed up the 4-wheel-drive’s windows.

“My car would’ve been submerged, it was too deep. Had I gone through it, would’ve gone up the exhaust,” she said.

The city of Gympie is also subject to an emergency flood alert as is Maryborough to the north.

Both the roads by the cemetery and the bridges between outlying suburbs and Gympie are closed, along with the route through Cooran near the train station, leaving Ms Miles trapped on Mothar Mountain.

According to Ms Miles, the flooded roads haven’t stopped other reckless drivers.

“There’s lots of cars driving through in different directions,” she said.

While she’s worried about the Alpacas she keeps in the backyard, she fondly refers to them as, ‘Misty Mountain Mob’, Ms Miles was still able to joke.

She said her son had invited her to dinner that evening, but due to all the intense flooding, she won’t be able to attend.

“Looks like no dinner for nana with her granddaughters,” she said.

If you are in an emergency, call triple-0 immediately.
