GYMPIE netballers will be able to breathe easier when the game resumes after the holidays with the creation of 30 new car spaces at the Gympie netball courts.

Work began clearing a 100m by 30m strip beside the courts on the corner of Rose and Hyne St to meet the demands of growing netball numbers in Gympie.

Gympie and District Netball Association president Colleen Miller said numbers for the game have doubled in Gympie in the past two years- with 400 adult and junior players now on the books.

Limited parking space at Monday evening match times has been a growing problem, Mrs Miller said.

"The parking has just been getting out of hand," she said.

"There used to be a parking space where the new one is, we are just revisiting it. It will now be much safer and easier for everyone."

The strip running alongside the Bruce Hwy side of the courts was cleared this week from overgrown weeds and debris that had built up from past floods.

There are no plans to seal the space, but lighting will be organised for the area.

The association is also seeking funding options for a new toilet block at the facilities, Mrs Miller said.
