THOSE bitter westerly winds are keeping the Gympie region's temperature to around 12-13 degrees this morning - despite an official anticipated maximimum today of 21 degrees today.

Fifteen kilometre an hour westerly winds, gusting up to 30kmh, are again putting that chilling, lip-cracking bite in the air which isn't making Monday any easier to get through. And according to Weatherzone.com the westerlies will be sticking around until Thursday at least and helping our mornings plummet to a chilling 5-6 degrees tomorrow and Wednesday.

If you felt like you couldn't warm up on Sunday in Gympie that's because the maximum only reached 17.9 degrees, a good few degrees below the usual for June.

Sunday climbed to a maximum of just 17.9 degrees, not that much warmer than the previous day's minimum of 17.3, and came at the end of a week where maximum temperatures ranged from 21 to 23.2 degrees.

Since recordings from 1965 the average maximum temperature in June in Gympie is 21.2. When you added in yesterday's arctic wind, which was blowing from the west and west north west up to 24kmh, and on the back of a very mild autumn, it was a little bit of a shock.

Sunday's hottest temperature of 17.9 degrees was not that much warmer than the previous day's minimum of 17.3, and came at the end of a week where maximum temperatures ranged from 21 to 23.2 degrees.

While it was pretty crisp it was still more than five degrees above the lowest recorded maximum in June in Gympie, which was 12.6 degrees on June 20, 2007.
