A MULTI-MILLION dollar Scotchy Pocket quarry expected to be serviced by 200 trucks every day is hurtling towards opening with upgrades their Bruce Highway access roads now underway.

Lindleys Lane is being given a major overhaul as part of the development which is being built on a 540ha area near Mt Scotchy.

Under the plan which was given a green light by Gmpie Regional Council five years ago, developers Hy-Tec aims to extract at least one million tonnes of material every year.

The Curra site will be their fifth in the state and the second in the Gympie-South Burnett region.

A Transport and Main Roads spokesman said the work, which is causing some minor delays for drivers on the Bruce Highway, should be finished by March.

The project was first approved in March 2014 with a four-year expiration date on the application.

A two-year extension was granted to Hy-Tec in January last year.
