The Mary Valley Rattler has taken the idea of a marketing drive literally with a colourful likeness of the heritage train hitting the roads across Australia as part of a marketing push with an awards company.
Rattler general manager Micheal Green said the Rattler Railway Company had entered into a sponsorship deal with the Grey Nomad Awards to promote the train around the country by way of decorating a 2014 Suzuki Alto hatchback with an image of the heritage steam engine.
The car is owned by the Yandina Creek-based awards company.
Mr Green said the RRC funded the car’s Rattler-themed wrap from its marketing budget.
“This is a great way to promote the region across the eastern portion of this great country,” he said.
The organisers of Grey Nomad Awards travel across the country, visiting regional areas and caravan parks.
GNA was established by Kim Morgan and Liz Rivers; its 2021 award season opens in the middle of this year.
A social media campaign running in conjunction with the car’s trek will encourage residents to keep an eye out for where it will pop up next.
“The concept started as a result of a chance conversation between the Grey Nomads Awards team and our team, and we thought it would be a great way of getting out our message in a fun way and directly to a market that is particularly strong for the Rattler,” Mr Green said.
“The Grey Nomads Awards’ team have really embraced the Rattler concept and are now representing the Rattler and the region across the country.
“The engagement has been really encouraging. The first post attracted strong interest, with comments around what a great idea it is and how fabulous to see the region promoted around the country, and particularly in regional and rural towns. The Awards’ team will also visit heritage rail operations during their travels to further the connections.”
