A man critically injured in a horror crash between a moped scooter and a truck on the Bruce Hwy in the centre of Gympie remains fighting for his life in hospital.
A Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokeswoman said on Wednesday the man remains in the intensive care unit in a “critically stable” condition.
He suffered serious injuries early Tuesday afternoon when the moped he was riding was hit by a truck near Gympie Central Shopping Centre, at the four-way intersection of Excelsior Rd and the highway.
A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman said he suffered significant leg and head injuries in the crash, which happened about 1.15pm.
Police were forced to reduce traffic at the busy intersection to one lane each way for more than an hour as the man was rushed to Gympie Hospital and responders cleared the mangled wreck of the moped from the road.
He was then flown to the Sunshine Coast.
Police said the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
