With the winter school holidays fast approaching for school kids in the Gympie Region there is no shortage of activities to keep them entertained.

Gympie Regional Council has a range of activities running for school-aged kids between June 28 and July 9 at various libraries around the region, and the University of Sunshine Coast is hosting a number of STEM and science based workshops at their Gympie Campus for kids aged between eight and 15 throughout the day on July 6.

Where’s Wally at the Gympie Library, June 28 - July 9

Wally has hidden himself in the Gympie library, can you find him?

Sessions are held daily between 9am and 5pm, and are running between Monday June 28 and Friday July 9.

Bee Bots at the Gympie Library, June 28

Help Bee Bot navigate his way through the maze and back to his hive!

This interactive session held at the Gympie Library on Monday June 28 between 2pm and 3pm is designed to teach kids between five-years-old and eight-years-old the basics of coding.

Bookings are essential.

Badge Making at the Goomeri, Imbil Libraries, June 29 and July 1

Make your own customised badges at the Goomeri Library on Tuesday, June 29.

Designed for kids eight-years-old and up, this arts and crafts activity will run from 10am to 11am.

The same event will be held at the Imbil Library on Thursday July 1, and will also run from 10am to 11am.

Hungry Caterpillar at the Kilkivan, Rainbow Beach Libraries, June 29 and July 9

A session of stories and craft inspired by the children’s picture book by Eric Carle, at Kilkivan Library on Tuesday June 29.

Suitable for kids five-years-old to eight-years old, the session will run from 2pm-3pm.

The same event will be held at the Rainbow Beach Library on July 9, also from 2pm-3pm.

A fun session of stories, activities and crafts inspired by the children’s book by Jol and Kate Temple at the Gympie Library on Wednesday, June 30.

Origami Creations at the Tin Can Bay, Gympie Libraries, July 2 and July 5

Learn to make different animals and shapes using origami at the Tin Can Bay Library on Friday, July 2.

Designed for kids five-years-old to 12, the session will run from 1oam-11am.

The same event will also be held at the Gympie Library on July 5 and will run from 1pm to 2pm.

Needle Felting at the Gympie Library, July 2

Learn to transform wool into 3D objects using a felting needle at the Gympie Library on Friday July 2.

Designed for kids eight-years-old and up, the session will run between 2pm and 3pm.

Ollie and the wind at the Rainbow Beach Library, July 2

Listen to the story of Ollie and his relationship with the wind, and learn to build your own kite at the Rainbow Beach Library on Friday July 2.

Designed for kids five-years-old to 12, this session will run between 2pm-3pm.

USC Gympie eDiscovery program: indoor micro drones 101, July 6

Learn to fly indoor micro drones at drone HQ at the University of Sunshine Coast’s Gympie campus.

In teams, children aged eight-years-old to 11-years-old will collect data to map and code a flight path to complete their mission.

The session will run from 9am-12pm.

USC Gympie eDiscovery program: beginner EV3 robotic challenge, July 6

Learn to design, build and program a sumo robot at the University of Sunshine Coast’s Gympie campus.

Children aged 12-years-old to 15-years-old will develop skills in creativity, problem-solving, confidence and teamwork, as well as knowledge of motors and sensors.

The session will run from 9am-12pm.

The same event will run an hour later for children aged eight-years-old to 11-years-old, from 1pm-4pm.

Learn the basics of sewing over four weekly sessions at the Gympie Library, starting on Tuesday July 6 from 3.30pm-4.30pm.

Designed for kids between eight-years-old and 12-years-old, they will learn life-long skills, while also having fun.

Take a look at the science behind magnetism at the Gympie Library on Wednesday, July 7.

For those a bit more experienced with sewing, Gympie Library is offering a weekly hour-long workshop for four weeks, starting on July 8.

Kids will learn programming concepts and how to send simple commands to control a robot as they work through different challenges at the Gympie Library.
