A Southside man has been charged with multiple alleged offences after allegedly trying to flee police through his neighbours’ yards in a dramatic chase caught on officers’ bodycam.
Officers were attending the Koumala St, Southside address on Thursday when the 36-year-old man allegedly tried to escape.
The footage shows officers pursue the man out the garage door and into neighbouring yards.
The pursuing officer briefly loses sight of the man, before he re-emerges running up a hill.
The 36-year-old eventually trips over and is surrounded by police, who tackle him to the ground and arrest him.
A search of the man following the arrest allegedly found a quantity of dangerous drugs, a knife, and several thousand dollars in cash allegedly in his possession.
He was charged with seven offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing tainted property, possessing a knife in a public place and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.
He was refused bail.
Police said further inquiries are under way into the suspected stolen property allegedly fond inside the vehicle.
