An empty shop on Kilkivan’s main street could be given new life, after a development application to build two new businesses was lodged with Gympie council.

The application by Glen Echo MX Pty Ltd was submitted on April 24, 2022, for 6 Bligh St, Kilkivan; which is currently home to an empty shop on the corner of Bligh St and Park St.

It is directly across from the Kilkivan Kindergarten and diagonally across from the Kilkivan Hotel Motel.

The application proposes a new structure designed for two new businesses, a cafe and/or retail outlet.

If approved, the new building will be split in half, with outdoor and footpath dining options facing Bligh St.

The original structure will be untouched, though a concrete footpath will connect the new and old buildings.

A third building – a shed to be used by staff working at the existing building on Bligh St – would also be built.

A nine-space carpark is tipped for the northeastern side of the lot, which will include two spaces for staff. Street parking will also be available.
