Tuesday, June 15, saw 72 vets (36 pairs) playing for the 4BBB Gross and Nett Championships.
Gross winners were Ken Wilkins and Gavin Burls on 74. Nett winners on 61 were Russell Ashby and Richard Lyman on a countback to Lesley Sutton and Greg (Thumper) Mitchell on a countback to Johnny Ireland and Chris Eyre. Pin shots went to A Grade that skinner person, B Grade was Greg Lewis on No 3 hole and C Grade on the 12th was Bruce Kortright (80cm) and Doug (The bum) Cunningham (1.92m).
Jelliatriacs was awarded to Andrew Towning for his F.I.S.H. My team members forgot about the wonderful shot on No. 8 that I had that hit the barrier post that put me back into contention.
Birdie 2 went to Max Tompkins on the 16th. Club Pin on the 16th was Lesley Sutton. Accuracy drive was Errol Ward. The NAGA went to Peter Mort and Al Norman on 79 nett. Tim & Yoey Coogan won the wild card draw for the day.
Rohan Braithwaite was awarded his hole in one trophy.
Thursday, June 17. What a day to hold a District Teams Match Play. 85 players from 10 clubs arrived early in the morning. A lovely morning tea was supplied by the Gympie Golf Ladies. Many thanks ladies! The vets were most impressed. Thanks to the spotters, players and bunker rankers.
Also thanks to Green Staff and House staff for presentation of the course and prompt service of lunch and general hospitality.
Division 1 Team winners was made up of Mike Lagowski, Anthony O’Malley, Peter Jenner and Peter Boyle from Pelican Waters.
Division 2 Team winners was made up with John Halbert, Lawrie Munro, John Pretorius and Trevor Gladwin from Pelican Waters. Sadly to say the only winner from Gympie was Jeff Hudgson playing in the Reserve grade.
