NORMALLY, Gympie hairdresser Joel Forman would be setting elderly clients' hair on Wednesday afternoon.
But yesterday afternoon the fourth-year apprentice was styling the tresses of some of Australia's most beautiful models and rubbing shoulders with the nation's best clothing designers at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney.
The 20-year-old, who works at Innovations Hair and Beauty in Mary Street, was selected to work alongside Australian Hairdresser of the Year Jane Wild and top Sydney stylist Darren Bortwick doing the hair of runway models for the country's top fashion designers.
Speaking to The Gympie Times via telephone from Sydney, Mr Forman said he was excited with the prospect of meeting top models, hairdressers and designers.
“I'll be doing two shows over three days as part of the GHD team,” he said.
The Gympie hairdresser is the GHD Style Expert for his parents Alan and Leah Forman's Gympie salon and was putting his skill to good use yesterday afternoon dressing the hair of models for designer Marnie Skilling.
“Marnie's show is outside on the (Sydney) Harbour and the catwalk goes over water,” Mr Forman said.
“The stylists are working in a tent preparing the models.”
Today he will work on models for designer Gary Begini.
“It's a great way to network in the industry and I'll learn a lot,” Mr Forman said.
“I got here last night (Tuesday) and we went out on the town - it's a lot different to Gympie.”
Mr Forman said he would be using the knowledge gained at Fashion Week to help him put together a new collection of styles for his clients in the Gympie salon.
