The first major development along the Gympie Bypass has been revealed with plans to open a multimillion-dollar service centre at the northern end of the 26km stretch which opened in October.
Developer Capital Transactions Pty Ltd unveiled its plans to open the centre in an application lodged with Gympie Regional Council in November.
The company wants to build the centre at the western side of the Curra interchange, on a 15ha block squeezed between the Old Bruce Highway and the North Coast railway line.
The proposed centre includes the service station, four fast food outlets, and several warehouses and 119 parking spots.
The application does not outline which fast food outlets may open their doors at the site.
All would be built on the southern end of the land and replace a house and three sheds.
The northern end would remain earmarked for future development which would “complement” the project.
Drivers will be able to enter the site from the old and new highways.
More than 20,000 vehicles were estimated to drive past the site every day, the developers said.
According to the developers if the facility was not built there would be 42km between the service stations at Traveston and Gunalda on the highway, claiming there were already five service stations in the 70km between Sippy Downs and Gympie..
If approved it will create 269 jobs “directly and indirectly” by the development.
Retail expenditure in the Curra area, including its surrounding towns, was estimated to be more than $153 million.
Spending at petrol stations by people in that area was put at $27 million.
